Candle Care 101

Quick Tips:

  1. Candle wax has memory: Always let your candle reach full melt pool before extinguishing.
  2. Trim your wick: Before re-lighting your candle, always trim your wick to 1/4 inch.
  3. Know when to stop: You candle is finished when there is 1/2 inch of wax left.

Candle Care 101:

    1. Always Reach Full Melt Pool: The first time you light your candle, let your candle melt all the way to the edge of the vessel. This is EXTREMELY important and will take about 2-4 hours. Candle wax has memory, if you don't burn it all the way to the edge this will leave residue on the side of your candle and will create what we call "tunneling".
    2. Keep Your Wicks Trimmed: Each time you light your candle, trim your wick to about a 1/4 inch long. This seems short but we promise your candle will light! We recommend using a wick trimmer if you have one. If your wick is any longer than 1/4 inch this can cause a bigger and unstable flame. You want your candle to burn nicely while staying in control.
    3. Keep Your Candles Safe: Always keep your candle in a safe place. Keep your candles away from drafts and flammable materials. This one might seem obvious but, drafts can cause soot to build upon the edge of your candle and no one wants that. Always follow the instructions on the warning labels on the bottom of your candles.
    4. Know When To Stop: After the first burn, only burn your candle for about 3-4 hours at a time. Do not let your candle burn for more than 4 hours. This can cause your candle jar to get too hot, your wick will become unstable, the flame can get too large, and your candle can start smoking. Discontinue the use of a candle when ½” of wax remains at the bottom of the jar.
    5. Reuse Your Candle Vessel: Once your candle is completely done, we encourage to you reuse your candle vessel! You can remove all the candle wax by popping your candle in the freezer for a few hours, then cleaning it out. You can use it as a planter, for cotton balls, a drinking glass, or whatever else you'd like!
